In the 1970s, when working at Island Records, television composer Michael Burdett was asked to throw out some tapes. One of them caught his eye. It was over 20 years later before Michael played the tape, and was astonished to hear an unknown version of one of Nick Drake’s greatest works.
Michael decided to share this recording in an extraordinary way, offering people across Britain the chance to hear the recording in exchange for photographing them.
He photographed people from all walks of life as well as some well-known faces including Noel Fielding, Billy Bragg, Ross Noble, Fearne Cotton, Danny Baker and Martin Freeman. Humorous and poignant, Strange Face Adventures With A Lost Nick Drake Recording celebrates life, coincidences and the legacy of singer-songwriter Nick Drake who would have been 70 this year.
